A Brief Introductory Statement Regarding Each of the Four Horsemen
The name Roger Baldwin
Math was always Baldwin’s favorite subject in school, so it shouldn’t have come as a surprise that he decided to major in mathematics when he got to college. He was fortunate enough to be awarded a scholarship that allowed him to attend Columbia University, where he ultimately obtained his master’s degree in mathematics. Soon after he received his diploma, he joined the United States Army and was eventually sent to the Aberdeen Proving Grounds.
Theodore Wilbert Cantey
Cantey was raised in a Christian household and was a frequent attender of church services throughout his childhood. He had a strong desire to serve in a pastoral capacity and delighted in attending church activities and functions.
As soon as he reached the age requirement, he enrolled in seminary to begin his studies in pastoral ministry.
Because he spent so much time trying to cheat people at pool and card games, he was ultimately compelled to give up his studies and withdraw from the seminary. After some time, he came to the conclusion that he should get a master’s degree in mathematics instead. After he had completed his education, he enlisted in the United States Army and eventually rose through the ranks to become a sergeant. The Aberdeen Proving Grounds were the location of his last assignment.
It was Herbert Maisel.
Maisel was recognized as a prodigy in the field of mathematics at a very early age. His scores on his math exams were consistently high, and he was the kid whom his classmates approached first for assistance whenever they struggled with one of their arithmetic homework problems. After graduating from high school, he made the decision to enlist in the United States Army, and his first duty station was at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds.
McDermott, James, and
McDermott was able to get a scholarship that covered all of his educational expenses at Columbia University because to his outstanding academic performance in high school. He was able to get a master’s degree in mathematics after spending six years of his life to his studies and eventually graduating from college.
Despite the fact that they went to the same high school, Baldwin and McDermott didn’t meet each other until McDermott was stationed at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds as part of his military service in the United States Army.
The Origins of the Most Fundamental Form of Strategy
These four individuals were thrown together by chance. Hartford County, Maryland was the location of the Aberdeen Proving Grounds, which served as the gathering place for all four of these guys. It was the responsibility of the soldiers who served in this unit to evaluate the efficacy of newly developed military hardware, put tanks and other pieces of equipment through their paces in stress tests, and produce lethal gases for use in warfare.
The life of a soldier is often fraught with tension, as I’m sure you can imagine given the circumstances.
As a means of relieving tension and passing the time during their downtime, a good number of the men assigned to this battalion loved playing card games. Baldwin made up his mind to come along with them one evening. He had never played blackjack before, so this was going to be his first experience with it.
His other service members briefed him on the regulations and informed him that the dealer would be required to stand on 17 and hit on 16 or below if they were playing blackjack.
